Kelly Garnett Joseph-Brooks was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, where storytelling, rhythm, and resilience sparked her earliest creative flames. A writer, creative educator, and exceptional speaker, Kelly began journaling and writing poetry to capture her imagination and process the world around her.
In 2003, she became an educator, earning credentials in Special Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), and Generalist teaching. Her classroom became a space of transformation, where writing and journaling helped students to heal, reflect, and grow into lifelong learners.
Though Kelly retired from teaching in 2018, she remains an educator at heart. Her essence is rooted in guiding others, believing that knowledge is the light that moves us forward and strengthens our communities.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kelly penned Dreaming Beyond: Finding My Voice and Keeping My Sanity During the COVID-19 Pandemic, a poetry collection that explores healing, emotion, and creativity. She has also written her second poetry collection Healing My Heart Poems of Identity, Truth, Transformation From Four Voices and Inheritance: A Journey in Three Movements (December 20, 2025).
