I’d never thought I’d see one in my face,
Up close
And in my personal space.
I had no time to scream or flail.
As I watched in confusion,
Brown in color,
elongated body,
with a segmented tail,
Is this an illusion?
Oh, to my surprise,
such a worthy foe’s tail rise.
Before it could strike,
my foot smashed it on sight.
One quick stomp and glance,
and the little critter transitioned.
It never had a chance,
to achieve its mission.
I dare not think about it
Or even envision.
What its purpose—its mission?
Perhaps, I will never know one bit.
